Digger Monday...Mean & Green

This digger was for sale a couple years back. I came across these pics while cleaning out my hard drive. I didn't save any info on the owner at the time, but do remember he stated it was supposedly built by Donnie Smith. What I find odd was there are really no SB&F parts on her at all, but who knows when she was built. I think it's a '58 mill, while eveything else looks like all Ness parts. Either way, the bike remained pretty much unmolested, other than the maltese cross mirrors and the paintjob. In hindsight, this scoot really didn't need much work to bring it back to show condition and I probably should've snatched it up. If you know anything about this bike, email me.

Showrod Sunday...Who Built It?

California Show Car owners  Bob Resiner and Jay Ohrberg are the original builders. Dick Dean is credited as building the all steel body when he worked there. It was originally painted blue and named "The Turnpike Hauler".
Sometime around '74, ol' George Barris gets a hold of her, paints her candy apple red, sells her to Redd Foxx or the producers of the Sanford and Son show. She hits the show circuit again, billed as Redd Foxx's Lil' Redd Wrecker. Incidentally, the rod was never seen on the show.
The last pic is from the 59th Annual Grand National Roadster show (2008), when Jay was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Jay is currently looking for a space to open "Jay Ohrberg's Hollywood Cars" in a major tourist area. Hopefully he gets his museum open.

Supercharger Saturday ...

I had a little downtime this afternoon, so I fabbed a quick jig for welding the supports for the Magnacharger. I was out of straight argon, so I ended up using a 75/25 mix. Not the best for tig'n, but I'm only using these for mock up. I'll make the final set out of stainless.

Goldfinger and Dunkin Donuts

I'm at DD's yesterday, sitting in the parking lot drinking a coffee in my truck, when this guy starts tapping on my passenger window. So I get out of the truck and this guy starts asking me about who did the flames and pinstriping on my truck and all kinds of paint and bodywork questions. I'm basically blowing this guy off because he's driving an HHR and I'm not about to do anymore flame jobs on anything this year. He proceeds to tell me he used to have a body shop, but sold it and went back to working the families electroplating business. He is just looking for someone to lay the flames out and he will paint them. He's now starting to peek my interest. So I proceed to ask him some questions on gold plating, and this guy knows his shit. Anyway his shop is less than a mile from me. I take a ride over there and it's very impressive. Fully automated, recycling all hazardous chemicals for disposal etc. It's not a walk in shop, all his work is through contracts with the government and manufacturers. Back to the flame job, he's about six months away from paint on a '33 Ford and he's willing to trade paint layout for some plating. I think I made a new best friend! We'll see what turns out of this, but I almost blew this guy off.
